Icelandic strongman competitor and Game of Thrones actor Hafthór Björnsson has broken a 1,000 year-old Viking weight-lifting record by carrying a monster log for five incredible steps.
The 26-year old lifted the log, which weighed 1,433lbs (650kg) and measured 30ft (9.1m) in length, as part of the World’s Strongest Viking competition in Norway, which he went on to win for the second year in a row.
His log-carrying feat smashed a record that has stood since the time of Viking legend, when the fabled lifter Ormur Stórólfsson is said to have carried the mast of a ship that weighed 1,250lbs (600kg). According to the tale, it took 50 men to lift the wood onto Stórólfsson’s shoulders. The gargantuan Icelander managed to carry the load for three steps before his back broke.
